                 NEWSLETTER SUMMER 2021
Creative Peacemakers is an exciting after-school enrichment experience for children K-4 who live in Deaverview Apartments. Our mission is to bring peace to our communities by helping children practice peacemaking using cooperative play and creative expression (yoga, drawing, weaving, painting, sculpture, dance, music, collage, gardening, cooking, and more). With LOVE as our foundation, we use a holistic approach to explore peace:
+within ourselves (body, mind, and spirit) - Peace for Me
     +
in our personal relationships with others - Peace for Us
     +
through our practices of social, economic, & global justice - Peace for Everyone
     +
with acts of environmental sustainability - Peace for the Planet

Emphasizing these four themes, we provide experiences which enable healing, resiliency, and empowerment while teaching peacemaking skills that will help children navigate challenges in our ever-changing world.  We are collaborating with Read to Succeed and Children 1st CIS to provide positive learning experiences in the neighborhood. Our program is in its 6th year at Deaverview. Visit our website at www.creativepeacemakers.com for photos, information, ways to support us, and more!  Many of our resources are listed on our web page as well. You can find updates on our Facebook Page: @Creative Peacemakers.

Join us: COLLABORATE,  PARTNER, VOLUNTEER, or SPONSOR

COLLABORATE: In 2021, we are collaborating with  diverse groups in the community.  The groups will use and evaluate  our curriculum to enable us to  provide improved comprehensive Peacemaker Tool Kits for elementary school-age children’s enrichment programs (adaptable for other age groups as well). These Tool Kits (pictured right) will  include books, lesson plans, activity  instructions, and materials as well  as access to on-line resources.  Initially, we would like to identify a few  program locations to help us pilot the Tool Kits. If you would like to collaborate with  us in this way, please contact us.

PARTNER: In order to expand our program, we need the assistance/networking of established organizations in the area that have similar missions and values. Coordination of the various groups participating and helping us manage the program are ways to partner. We plan to work with others connected to United Way’s - United 4 Youth collaboration.

VOLUNTEER:  Assist with program facilitation at the Deaverview Apartments in West Asheville, the original site of Creative Peacemakers. Help is always needed with snacks, music, art, etc. Specific needs will be posted on Hands on Asheville volunteer site. www.handsonasheville.org & United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County (unitedwayabc.org)

SPONSOR:  Our program is currently sponsored by St. George’s Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina.  Small grants and individual donations partially support our program for snacks, educational materials, and supplies.  We are staffed by volunteers including high school and college interns.

                    NEW PARTNERSHIP - 2021
